One Cloud Platform for Video, Alarms and Access
TetherX runs in the browser and native mobile apps. The only thing on site is a small bridge - software on a server you already own, or a dedicated TetherBox - that connects the cameras, alarms and access control already on the wall to the cloud.
Open Platform or Closed Ecosystem
Every security buyer faces the same fork in the road. It is worth understanding before you sign anything.
TetherX: Open
Closed Ecosystem
Comparison reflects common closed-ecosystem models such as Verkada and Rhombus. Capabilities vary by vendor and change over time.

Open Is Not the Same as Cloud-Only
Some of the better-known platforms - Eagle Eye / Brivo, Videoloft - are open too, and that is a genuine point in their favour. But open and cloud-only are different things, and the difference shows up on the day something goes wrong.
Recording Should Not Depend on Your Broadband
A cloud-first VMS streams every camera off-site to record it. Continuous recording then lives and dies with your Internet connection and your upload bandwidth. TetherX records locally on the TetherBox first - a broadband outage never opens a gap in your footage.
Put Cloud Where It Earns Its Place
Cloud-only means every camera is pushed off-site by default. TetherX lets you back up the cameras that matter to the cloud and keep the rest recording locally - protection where it counts, not a blanket bill for all of it.
More Than Video
Eagle Eye / Brivo and Videoloft are video platforms. TetherX brings video, intruder alarms and access control into one system, so an event from any of them lands in a single timeline instead of three separate apps.
Eagle Eye / Brivo and Videoloft are independent products. References describe their published cloud-first model and may change over time.
Go Live This Afternoon, Not Next Quarter
Every closed system starts with procurement: order the kit, wait out lead times, book the crew. TetherX starts with the cameras already on the wall. Install the bridge software on a server you already own (or a dedicated TetherBox), point it at the cameras, and you are live the same day.
No order to place. No lead time to wait out. The platform you are evaluating today can be running on a real site before the week is out.
The TetherX path
Software, not a shipment.
Channel-Only, and the Two Questions That Always Come With It
We do not sell direct, because nobody at our HQ knows your site like a qualified local installer does. That model raises two fair questions. Here are the answers.
See /integrators for the installer pitch and /commercial for the end-customer one.
Will my monitoring station still work?
Yes. TetherX connects to Immix, Sentinel, CONXTD, MASterMind, Bold Patriot Manitou, Stages and others directly. Your monitoring contract, SOC contacts, alarm-receiving SLAs and insurance assessor's site visit all stay in place. Pure-bundle PSaaS vendors replace your ARC with their own in-house SOC - a six-month migration with no upside for sites that already have a monitoring contract in place.
What if my installer goes out of business?
The platform is portable. Any qualified TetherX installer can take over your sites - the hardware is multi-vendor and the data is yours. If you have your own internal security or facilities-management team, we offer free training so they can support the platform end-to-end.
A Gateway, Not a Cage
A closed system gives you one vendor's catalogue. TetherX gives you the industry's. Connect once and you inherit every integration the platform has ever built - hundreds of manufacturers and services, already done, ready to use. The hard part of multi-vendor security is solved before you start.
If you install
Solve a customer's problem with whatever hardware fits, sourced from whoever can actually supply it. One platform, one skillset - you never have to learn another vendor's ecosystem to take on the next job.
If you build
One REST API reaches all of it. Build once against TetherX instead of wiring up every manufacturer and service by hand - the integration work is already done for you.
Explore the TetherX APIOne Platform, Not Five Logins
Cameras, alarms and access control land in a single timeline. Video records locally on the TetherBox, with optional cloud backup per camera. AI search finds person, vehicle, animal and audio events across multi-site footage. The deep tour lives on the platform pages - this page is about the choice between open and closed.
Multi-Year Price Protection
Lock in pricing with 1, 3 or 5 year licensing - certainty in a market where everything else keeps going up. The closed-ecosystem subscription is a perpetual revenue line for the vendor; open and prepayable is the opposite of that.
When TetherX Is Not the Right Answer
Honesty saves everyone time. If you want a single vendor to supply every camera, sensor and door reader as one sealed package and you never plan to change, a closed system like Verkada or Rhombus could work well for you.
But that is a big bet. You do not always control what is already on the wall when you take on a building, and the manufacturer with the best offering today may not be the best in a year or two. A closed system keeps you on it regardless. Open means you can always change your mind.
TetherX is for operators and integrators who want to own their choices - keep their cameras, mix manufacturers, charge for their own services, and never be locked in. If that sounds like you, we should talk.
Across the partner network
TetherX partners hold the accreditations security-procurement buyers and insurers filter on. Coverage varies by partner.
Counts reflect partners currently in the TetherX directory holding each accreditation.
