PRACTICAL DIFFERENCES

Keep daily operation and software updates in one service.

Let TetherX look after software updates

BVMS uses an installed Windows desktop and server environment, and your team or provider plans each version upgrade with the backups and eligibility checks IQSIGHT’s upgrade guide calls for. TetherX delivers TetherBox software upgrades automatically, with rollouts targeted to relevant units. Bosch’s Remote Portal can deploy supported patches too; the difference is who operates the complete service.

VideoView+ needs Bosch cameras or DIVAR IP

VideoView+ adds remote live viewing, playback and forensic search only for Bosch cameras or a Bosch DIVAR IP appliance. In TetherX, remote viewing covers every supported camera, whichever manufacturer made it. BVMS provides deep video and integration tools; establish the proposed access and intrusion workflow too.

Health reports in the service your team uses daily

TetherX brings scheduled daily, weekly or monthly health reports, remote diagnosis and supported device corrections into the service your team uses every day. Reports link directly to recording, storage and network issues across your sites. On the Bosch side, IQSIGHT Remote Portal provides health monitoring, inventory reports and supported DIVAR IP patches.

AT A GLANCE

Bosch BVMS and TetherX, question by question

The 5 questions an integrator asks on a site walk, answered for both platforms.

Question Bosch BVMS TetherX
Do I need a recorder on site? The customer or integrator maintains BVMS's Windows-based recording and management environment, with VRM/iSCSI and DIVAR IP options. Continuous cloud recording is a separate Alarm Management service with its own licence. IQSIGHT rates one server for up to 2,000 cameras. TetherX provides recording, viewing, search and monitoring through one system and one app. TetherBox records locally, with optional TetherX cloud recording, so no existing recorder or third-party cloud video service is required. It can also work alongside either where needed.
Which devices you can connect Newer camera firmware can require a BVMS patch or upgrade: IQSIGHT says certain firmware needs a BVMS patch before the camera can be added. Bosch and supported third-party cameras connect to BVMS. Check compatibility before replacing or adding cameras. 1,000+ integrations across 17,000+ device models, plus ONVIF and RTSP sources. Check model-specific recording, analytics and control support.
Where the AI runs IVA Pro Context's cloud GenAI event descriptions are a paid add-on, capped at 100 requests a month. IVA Pro runs on compatible camera hardware; other BVMS analytic integrations have their own compute and licence requirements. Included TetherBox AI runs on the edge, and supported camera and third-party analytics feed the same timeline. Native video, appearance/PPE and counting run on compatible NVIDIA GPU/Jetson or Hailo compute, including Raspberry Pi AI HAT; audio runs locally on the CPU. Each module needs supported models, configuration and a capacity check. Additional modules and retention can cost extra. Optional paid Calipsa cloud verification is also available, and natural language footage search interprets requests in the cloud.
Who you buy it from Since the Triton sale, Bosch video sits in IQSIGHT and access and intrusion in a separate Radionix unit, so you deal with two product lines. Triton acquired Bosch's security products business on 1 July 2025, moving about 4,300 staff to Keenfinity. Through the professional channel: an installer, security distributor or control room.
What you actually pay for A Software Maintenance Agreement (SMA), renewed yearly, controls eligible version upgrades; one US reseller priced it at 12.8% of the base licence in October 2026. VideoView+ remote access is a yearly subscription per camera or DIVAR IP. BVMS uses perpetual licences: the edition and channel licences, recording infrastructure and selected analytics form the quote. Remote System Management and other cloud services are separate services. An annual platform subscription by channel count, from £100/site/year. TetherBox AI is included; additional modules and retention can cost extra. Cloud recording is optional; specialist analytics and professional monitoring are quoted separately.

FAQ

Questions before you choose

Not since BVMS 12.3. Bosch ended its Mobile Video Service in that release, and the BVMS 14.0 release notes say “features dependent on MVS (web browser access) will not be available anymore” (BVMS 14.0 release notes). On phones, Bosch’s Video Security app connects to one site at a time, with up to four camera streams (Video Security Client 3.9.0). TetherX runs fully in any browser, with every site in one place and native iOS and Android apps.

Only from a DIVAR IP all-in-one appliance. Bosch’s knowledge base says phone push notifications for BVMS alarms are “not available on a non DIVAR IP AIO based BVMS installation”, and they need BVMS 13 or later plus a VideoView+ licence (Keenfinity knowledge base). TetherX sends critical alerts to its native iOS and Android apps from any site.

Yes. An expired SMA limits upgrades to versions released before its expiry date, and IQSIGHT guidance says technical support is then unavailable. TetherX includes platform upgrades in its subscription, with no separate SMA to renew. Match the target BVMS version to the covered release date before planning the work.

Your team or provider maintains the BVMS environment. BVMS uses installed Operator and Configuration Clients with a Windows-based management and recording environment. Depending on the design, that includes VRM, iSCSI storage and DIVAR IP components. IQSIGHT's upgrade guide calls for configuration backups, Software Assurance checks, component inventory, third-party compatibility checks and restoration of custom settings. Supported Remote Portal services can deploy patches and update DIVAR components, while Windows updates remain separately managed. Your team or partner still looks after hardware and unrelated applications. BVMS retains strengths in complex video estates and deep Bosch integration.

Ask for the BVMS edition, channel licences, storage, hardware, Software Assurance and remote-service scope, and do not assume a universal maintenance percentage from one reseller’s price. TetherX uses an annual platform subscription priced by channel count; check the selected module coverage.

These dated accounts describe specific tasks and installations:

  • An installer said firmware conflicts turned a 20-minute camera swap into a full day's work, prompting them to stop using BVMS. Reddit r/lowvoltage, installer, August 2024
  • One installer described 15 to 20 steps to add a camera. Missing a step meant going back through the configuration to find the problem. Reddit r/lowvoltage, installer, August 2024
  • A user of both BVMS and Bosch's mobile viewing app said they had experienced bugs in both interfaces. App Store review, August 2025

Public BVMS reviews are sparse, so these selected reports do not show how often a problem occurs. A firmware check does not mean every camera swap fails. Check retained cameras, firmware and the supported BVMS version together, and time adding a camera in both systems during a trial.

TetherX cloud-platform updates are automatic, and TetherBox software receives over-the-air upgrades. Routine unit updates normally apply at the next reboot or reconnection; critical updates can be pushed immediately. Recording and live view are temporarily unavailable during installation, and resume afterwards. BVMS version upgrades follow the supported installation and Software Assurance plan: for example, the DIVAR IP 7000 gen4 guide documents configuration backup and package installation for 13.1.

TetherX ships a feature release every month, with smaller compatibility and improvement updates in between, and validated updates install automatically on the platform and TetherBox software. BVMS 13.1 became generally available on 18 December 2025 and 14.0 on 12 June 2026, 176 days apart. Minor BVMS releases receive 12 months of full support, and after that you may need to upgrade before an issue can be fixed; coverage depends on lifecycle and Assurance terms. Feature releases and bug fixes have different routes, so a fault need not wait six months: the support policy permits eligible hotfix requests, and release notes direct specific issues to technical support. Remote Portal is a separate cloud service: its published history lists 16 deployments from 21 October 2025 to 22 September 2026, with a median 21-day gap. These observed dates are no future release or fix SLA.

No. BVMS remains a server-based video management system, and the wider IQSIGHT portfolio adds cloud services such as Remote Portal and VideoView+. TetherX is a cloud platform that records locally, with optional cloud recording per camera. Cloud management and a cloud recording archive are different requirements, so check which one each site needs.

TetherX can retain supported cameras, including supported Bosch and third-party models. Camera compatibility does not mean every vendor-specific analytic or control transfers unchanged. Check the exact model, firmware, streams and analytics during a trial.

A typical TetherBox setup takes about 15 minutes. The site connects outwards, so you can view it remotely without port forwarding or a static IP address.

Yes. Arrange a 30-day trial through an integrator partner using TetherBox Bridge on compatible hardware and with camera access agreed in advance. Compare footage, alarms, permissions and exports at one site before moving the other sites across. Trial extensions are available on request. The cameras must be able to connect to both systems at once.

TetherX runs single sites and large multi-site estates from one workspace, with supported video, access and intruder events together. A fully air-gapped or offline installation, or a single site with no need for remote access, will still work, but it is not what TetherX is built for.
THE STORY SO FAR

Two histories. Different operating models.

Bosch / IQSIGHT

Bosch expanded its video business by acquiring Philips security in 2002. Triton bought the security-products business in 2025 and formed Keenfinity, and the video business became IQSIGHT in 2026. BVMS is now developed within a private-equity-owned security group, rather than Bosch’s wider manufacturing business, with a new video brand.

TetherX

Founded by UK security installers in 2009, TetherX launched in 2011, raised product funding in 2018 and became independent in 2022. In 2026, we launched TetherX AI and expanded into Australia with local support on the ground. With no VC, private-equity or camera-manufacturer owner, customers and installers shape our roadmap.
